Take a deep breath
Here it is the long-awaited big day! Between impatience and anxiety, you do not leave for your new office with a light mind. The first week can indeed be disconcerting and a bit stressful: we don’t know anyone, the workspace is unfamiliar, and the tasks to be performed have not yet been mastered. In order not to let stress invade you and prevent you from insuring the first days, relax! And to relieve this stress, nothing like a few breathing exercises.

Listen, observe, ask
Are you there, dressed to the nines, ready to take on all the new challenges? You have been hired for your skills and will soon show what you are capable of, but in the meantime, remember that you are on a probationary period. You arrive in an unknown land, so stay humble and take an interest! Listen, observe, ask questions, and take notes on everything you had to take in the first few days: corporate culture, that is, the values of society. And those who bring it to life, new tools, whether new software, a web platform, an organizational tool or other, the different poles, the positions of each, the colleagues to inform you and help you.
Taking notes provides reassurance and visual support in case of doubt. And besides, it gives a posture! Ideal when the apprehension of the beginnings has not completely disappeared and you don’t want it to show.
Integrate
Of course, you must do your job correctly. But your integration into the company is also essential to validate your probationary period. Getting along with the team will indeed have a positive influence on your productivity (you will be less stressed, more at your ease in the company …). The first weeks, therefore, try to get to know your colleagues, to be courteous, to smile. Don’t plan a personal lunch or a solo coffee break. You will learn a lot about a business by bonding. Be motivated
Even if you are not 100% comfortable the first few weeks, which is quite normal. Show your desire to learn, your interest in the work to be done, be positive and enthusiastic, in short, be motivated. Nobody expects you to be on top the moment you arrive. What a pleasure for your manager and your colleagues to work with someone so enthusiastic. Interrogate
Show your motivation and goodwill by regularly checking in with your supervisor. And with your direct colleagues if you feel the need. You could, for example, offer the first meeting about a month after your arrival, to take control of these first weeks. This will be an opportunity to ask all your questions. Are you going in the right direction? Are you meeting expectations? What can you improve? This will also be a good time to talk about what is not entirely clear yet. And to ask for some clarification if necessary. All of this will allow you to put things right, if there is any. And it will prove to your business that you take the job seriously and that you are here to stay!
