At least 8 hours a day. That’s how much time you spend in a 40-hour week at work, at the office, and more and more at home. It is therefore important to develop a healthy work-life balance. With these tips and you are off for a vital working day and can stay focused at work every day.

Start your day after a good rest

Various brain waves are activated during your sleep. That is good for your brain, neuroscience teaches us. Recharge yourself for an energetic working day? A good night’s sleep is essential. Slide your smartphone, tablet, or laptop aside for an hour before going to sleep.

Drink enough water.

Yes, the coffee is very alluring at the office. What would you do without it? Drink more water or tea! Flavor your water with a few slices of lemon or cucumber, some ginger, or a sprig of fresh mint. Drink enough to avoid headaches, about eight glasses per working day.

Eat healthy, even in between.

Avoid sugars that give you a boost, but then crash mercilessly. Replace that biscuit or candy bar with fruit or choose a handful of nuts or dried fruit as a snack.

Work in short intervals

Sitting for a long time has negative consequences for your body and your brain. So regularly adopt a different position and vary your movements. Get up every 30 minutes, work at a standing table, and take the stairs.

Monitor your focus.

Do you work in an open office space? Make clear agreements with your colleagues and manager when they may interrupt you. Turn off desktop notifications and email and social media notifications. Work undisturbed and find a focus spot.

Change your routine.

Focusing for 8 hours doesn’t keep your brain full. If you don’t take a break or do something else, it pushes the pause button itself. Change your routine with tasks such as checking emails or messaging.

Organize your workspace.

Productivity starts with an order. Stop spending time looking for files or documents on your computer. Put some order in your workspace: desk, cupboard, and computer. Everything you use frequently should be accessible quickly, or without getting up from your chair. Make sure everything or document is tidy every day. Create a warm atmosphere to feel good. A tidy and pleasant workspace has a significant impact on your productivity.

Organize your schedule and set deadlines.

To avoid procrastination, setting a deadline is proven to improve your performance in getting things done. Organization is the key to being more productive at work. Depending on your pace, complete your priority tasks at the start of the day or mid-afternoon when your concentration and energy are at their peak.

Doing is better than perfect.

Perfection is productivity’s worst enemy. Better to do something imperfect than not to do a task or spend hours doing it.

Prepare for the next day.

At the end of the day, get in the habit of taking note of your completed tasks, and prepare the list of tasks to be done the next day. Your brain will be reassured and ready to work on what you have planned after a good night’s sleep!

Release the pressure

Stress hampers your productivity and job performance. You need to learn to take the pressure off at work and give yourself time to do what you want and relax.

Integrating new habits takes time. Take it gradually, setting up one new routine at a time, and experimenting with what works best for you. Productivity also means knowing how to get to the point, prioritizing, and eliminating the tasks that you could delegate.
