Whether you desire something new or want to be promoted, it is legitimate to want to change jobs. More than half of employees who change jobs at the same time increase their salary. But money is of course not the only motivation. Choosing professional mobility is also a way to uplift your career or to escape the boredom of routine work.
The problem is that finding a job while still employed is almost a full-time activity: carrying out this mission in addition to your job is, therefore, a challenge. Here’s how to do it right.
1. Write CVs and letters from home
Do your research with an eye on the watch, between two professional meetings? Stressful and not very productive, this method should be avoided. To stay in control, adopt this basic rule: CV and cover letters must be written at your home. Be sure to specify that, being already in post, you want your request to be treated with the utmost discretion. Document all the elements relating to your application: title of the job for which you applied exact name and function of the HR contact and date of sending of your letters to make your reminders at the right time.

2. Make a new profile
If you want to post your resume online, be careful. Make your profile anonymous or deny access to certain people. Social networks like LinkedIn should be used sparingly, especially if you have members of your company among your contacts. For example, be careful not to say that you want to move! Be aware that recruiters do not hesitate to contact someone whose profile interests them, even if nothing indicates on their profile that they want to leave their position.

3. Take advantage of late hours at the office
An employee does not have the right to use the tools made available to him by the company for personal purposes, the employee can theoretically be dismissed for misconduct. However, nothing prevents you from taking advantage of off-peak hours to consult the responses to your applications in your e-mail box. If you need to store documents on your computer, collect them in a folder called “personal” your employer has no legal right to open it.

4. Use your network with caution
Don’t limit yourself to the “first circle” of your professional contacts. When meeting with clients or suppliers, let them know that you are not against the idea of moving and that their business interests you. Stay cautious: avoid confiding in recent contacts, stick to those with whom you have established a solid relationship.

5. Discreetly organize your meetings
When a recruiter contacts you on your mobile (you should never give your professional phone number), avoid taking the call in the office, even if you have the possibility of isolating yourself. Frequent trips back and forth to a deserted meeting room would end up looking shady. The best is still to suggest to your speaker to call him back in the evening when you are calm (recruiters do not take offense if you cut the conversation short, they know very well that it is difficult to speak freely about another job at another workplace)
For interviews, ask for early in the morning or late at night. Otherwise, try grouping them on a day off. Repeated unjustified delays or absences may indeed catch the attention of your employer. On meeting days, be vigilant about your outfit! If you work in a suit or a business suit every day, no problem.

6. Think over the conditions of your departure
It is better to examine the issue of notice early enough because the next recruiter will ask you. The duration is generally three months for executives. In the event of dismissal and sometimes resignation (depending on collective agreements), you can leave earlier. Search about your company’s policy in this area. Otherwise, if it is you that your future employer wants, they will be ready to wait a few weeks.
